Waste
The University is committed to promoting separate waste collection in its facilities, in collaboration with the Municipality of Padua and the Hera Group.
Urban waste management
In 2018, a working group was set up to improve waste management in Padua, with the participation of the University, the Municipality, the Hera Group, the National Packaging Consortium (CONAI), the Padua 2 Basin Authority, ESU Padua (Regional Agency for the Right to University Education) and Legambiente. In 2019, the initiative led to the signing of a memorandum of understanding to optimise waste collection and reduce its impact, especially in university areas.
In April 2025, a new project was launched with the aim of implementing separate waste collection at the University. For more information, please visit the following link: Separate waste collection at the University.
Special waste management
In managing dangerous and non-dangerous special waste, the University of Padua has always operated in compliance not only with regulatory requirements, but also with ethical and environmental protection principles, promoting policies aimed at reusing materials in multiple production cycles and reducing waste, with a view to a circular economy.
Over the years, it has developed a management system for chemical and medical waste with centrally managed tenders, favouring the use of authorised companies and plants that prioritise the reuse and recovery of materials and energy. It has established in new contracts that at least 50% of hazardous and non-hazardous special waste of chemical and medical origin must be recovered.
In 2024, the University began recycling 96% of the special waste it produced.
More information on special waste management can be found on the University website.
