The competitive season has just opened, and Unipd has won first place at the First Northern National Rowing Meeting

The First Northern National Meeting of Students, Cadets, Schools and Universities and PR3 II held at Lake Roffia in San Miniato (PI) drew to a close on Sunday, 21 April 2024.
They were intensive days for Padua’s rowing athletes who, on Saturday and Sunday, under the guidance of coaches Gherardo Gamba and Francesco Giurisato,competed against other universities, including Turin, Turin Polytechnic, Milan, Milan San Raffele, Milan Cattolica, Milan Bicocca, Noverate Campus, Bergamo, Trieste, Ca’ Foscari, Pavia and Genoa, achieving excellent results.
Giacomo De Lucchi inaugurated the medals awarded to the University on Saturday, 20 April, by winning first place in the Men’s Singles category. Gexi Sun with Francesca Zocca won the gold medal in the two Women’s Doubles competitions, and Mariasole Raffaeli with Matilda Bucci achieved the silver medal. In the Beginners category, Claudia Benvegnù and Giulia Cohen took the gold medal by overcoming the highly skilled Cus Torino team.
However, on the second day, Giacomo De Lucchi and Tommaso Turato took second place in the men’s doubles, as did beginners Stefan Vasic and Giovanni Trabuio, who won silver in the same type of race. They were followed by Matilda Bucci and Nicolò Rizzardini ranking second, and Mariasole Raffaeli with Mattia Maculan coming third in the mixed doubles category. The beginners also achieved excellent results: Giulia Cohen and Davide Mattevi won the gold medal, and Claudia Benvegnù with Paolo Caldieraro achieved silver. The event closed with the Women’s Four comprising Gexi Sun, Leonora Roncon, Francesca Zocca and Anna Cecchellero. They beat the University of Milan to second place on the podium.
In the overall ranking of the event, the University of Padua took first place with 202 points ahead of the University of Genoa (168) and Milan (152).
A promising beginning for this rowing season, which once again confirms enthusiasm for the successful project of Rowing at the University!
