The University of Padua signs a memorandum of understanding for green purchasing

Friday September 27, at the fair of Padua, was signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the promotion of green purchasing between the City of Padua, represented by the Councillor for Environment Chiara Gallani, theUniversity of Padua, in the person of Rosario Rizzuto as rector, the CCIAA – Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Craftmanship and Agriculture of Padua, in the person of Franco Pasqualetti as vice-president and the Coordination of Italian Local Agenda 21 – Coordinamento agende 21 locali italiane, represented by the president of the association Arturo Lorenzoni.
The Municipality, in 2005, activated the project Padua buys green, to encourage the involvement of municipal offices in the application of green purchasing in calls for tenders and to raise awareness in the area and inform citizens. The University of Padua is part of Rus-Network (University Network for Sustainable Development) and adheres to the provisions of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Sustainability Commitment Charter 2018-2022 has allowed to advance connections with institutions in the area and contacts between recent graduates and the world of work.
The CCIAA – Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Craftmanship and Agriculture provides information and training services on environmental issues. It also promotes the creation of paths of sustainability and environmental quality for SMEs, networks, districts and supply chains, encouraging competitiveness, innovation and internationalization in the context of sustainability. The association Coordinamento Agende 21 Locali Italiane (Italian Local Agenda 21 Coordination), created in 2000 to implement the program developed by the first World Conference on Sustainable Development for the 21st Century and the 1994 European Sustainable Cities Campaign, has developed a strategy with specific projects at international, national and local level. Since 2007 it has promoted the national forum Compraverde Buygreen and in 2018 it signed a protocol in Padua, with the entities Ecosystems Foundation and Adescoop for the dissemination of green public procurement at the national level.
The entities signing the agreement, valid for five years, are committed to a collaboration for a better implementation of Gpp (Green public procurement) within the entities and in the Padua territory. For the achievement of their objectives will share experiences, information, updates and training opportunities. Participate in working groups on specific issues, identifying operational methods for the application of GPP. Establish methodologies for monitoring green procurement. They will produce joint communications and promote their participation in regional, national or European projects dedicated to the theme.
They will also engage in the promotion of projects and actions to raise awareness of the Padua area addressed to different subjects. They will collaborate in the organization of events, initiatives and educational activities on green purchasing and sustainability. Finally, they will collaborate with the Veneto Region and the association Coordination of Italian Local Agenda 21 – Coordinamento Agende 21 Locali Italiane in the definition of minimum environmental criteria by the Ministry of Environment and Protection of Land and Sea.
