Education for Sustainability
The University of Padua offers a wide selection of degree courses. Students can pursue their academic goals by choosing from a range of studies from science to humanities, economics to social sciences and pedagogy to law. Giving visibility to its educational commitment to sustainability, University of Padua professors and educators began specifying topics related to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in their respective course curriculum and syllabus at the start of the 2017-2018 academic year.
More than 50% of the course units offered by the University focus on at least one of the 17 SDGs outlined in the United Nations 2030 Agenda.
The University has also promoted the contents of the 2030 Agenda by creating the e-learning course “The 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals” and making it accessible to the entire university community.
The Sustainability Education offer
The following is a selection of Bachelor, Master, Doctoral, higher education, and general courses focusing on issues related to sustainable development goals (a.y. 2023/2024).
In 2024, the General Course ‘Sustainability Ambassadors. Knowing, promoting, practising sustainability’ was launched. The course The course was developed by the Department of Chemistry of the University of Padua, in collaboration with the Municipality of Padua and AcegasApsAmga S.p.A., and under the patronage of the Network of Universities for Sustainable Development (RUS). The aim of the General Course is to raise citizens’ awareness of more sustainable behaviour in relation to the urban territory they inhabit and reinforcing their sense of responsibility in taking care of the environment. This is a 6-credit course is open to all students and University staff, with 20 free places reserved for University employees and 10 additional free places reserved for staff of the Municipality of Padua and AcegasApsAmga (five for each institution). This course content is structured into teaching modules and practical laboratory activities covering topics such as commitment to sustainability, food, mobility, health, and the sustainable management of resources.
Degree and Master’s courses are only open to students enrolled at the University, while MOOCs are also available to interested citizens.
