Communicating Science. A course for Unipd teaching and research staff

The first three editions of the “Communicating Science” course were held from 3 June to 9 July 2025. They were organised by the Public Engagement Office – Communication and Marketing Area (ACOM), in collaboration with the Digital Learning and Multimedia Office (ASIT) and the Organisational Development Office (ARU), and were intended for teaching and research staff at the University of Padua.
The course is divided into two thematic modules, the first dedicated to the use of text and images and the second to public speaking, for a total of six meetings and twelve hours of training.
By means of mini-lessons, case studies and peer presentations, participants were invited to reflect on the use of text to convey their research results in an effective and accessible manner to a lay audience, taking into account the context; they explored the topic of the most suitable tools for the use of images and graphic elements in scientific communication and the correct application of the coordinated image of the University of Padua; finally, they worked on the construction of a speech, taking care of the use of voice, non-verbal communication, the choice of topics and the construction of the agenda.
The lectures were delivered by Paola Scioli, freelance journalist and university and business communication consultant, Carlo Presotto, actor, director and playwright, and Domitilla Ferrari, digital communication and marketing expert.
The course will be repeated in several editions. An Open Badge will be awarded to those who have completed the course.
