Volunteers for Education: a Save The Children’s project to counter the educational crisis produced by Covid-19

Do you attend the University of Padua and believe that education is the key to lasting change and a better future? Do you work at the university and are you sensitive to issues related to young people and their education? Get active and join the community of “Volunteers for Education”, the initiative promoted by Save The Children that, for over a year, has activated a support network for children and adolescents affected by the educational crisis produced by the Covid-19 pandemic, with the aim of supporting them in the recovery of learning and motivation through a path of accompaniment to online study..
The project, supported by the University of Padua, has seen in the past year the involvement of more than 950 volunteers who, after a path of adequate training, thematic insights and tutoring by professional educators, have helped to study about 1500 children, girls and boys, between 9 and 17 years, thus contributing to combat educational poverty and early school leaving.
This year’s ambitious goal is tosupport 3500 children and adolescents, and to do this, it is estimated that it will be necessary torecruit about 10,000 volunteersamong the students, teachers and administrative technical staff of the universities participating in the initiative.
It’s not only about study support: those who intend to become “Volunteers for Education” will be able to meet, confront each other, exchange experiences and opinions in the online community, as well as having the opportunity to attend advanced training courses on the theme of the educational relationship in different contexts.
At the end of their service, which provides aminimum of 38-50 hours of activityto be carried out in about three months, each volunteer will be issued acertificate of participationanddigital badge, useful for the recognition of skills acquired in the educational field.
