Padua rules university rowing: Unipd wins its fourth consecutive Italian championship

On the weekend of 22 and 23 November, Lake Paola in Sabaudia hosted the final stage of the National University Long Distance Meeting, the 6000-metre single sculls competition for university races.
The University of Padua, together with Canottieri Padova, participated with eleven crews, including five rookies belonging to the Remare all’Università (Rowing at University) project.
The race course, located in the picturesque artificial basin in front of the Navy headquarters, offered a fascinating view as always. However, the weather conditions were not the most favourable: the wind — at times favourable, at times contrary — caused difficulties for many athletes and made the race a real test of endurance.
Despite everything, Padua took home four important victories in the University and Beginners categories.
University results
Men’s individual competition: golden medal for Pietro Ortu and bronze medal for Davide Mattevi.
Women’s individual competition: first place for Vittoria Stangherlin and third place for Anna Giurisato.
Beginners’ results
Men: podium dominated by Unipd thanks to Jacopo Ceolato (gold), Alessandro Chiarotto (silver) and Eric Arena (bronze).
Women: victory for Laura Salmaso, followed by Francesca Cortellino.
This competition marks the end of the 2025 Tricolore Universitario Championship: with over 800 points, the University of Padua wins the title for the fourth year in a row, a truly remarkable achievement.
There was also great satisfaction on the part of coaches Francesco Giurisato and Gherardo Gamba, who emphasised the commitment and passion with which the student-athletes manage to balance their university studies and high-level sporting activities.
