A beautiful tribute to Frida Kahlo has appeared in Padua, in the Arcella district, signed by the artist Mike 128: a street art product that is part of the “Universa Universis Patavina Libertas” project, born from the collaboration between the University of Padua and the social community Arcellatown on the occasion of the 800 years of the University of Padua.
Third of the eight planned interventions, the work of the Venetian artist is called “Lei”, is located in Fornace Morandi street and is part of a series of contributions that will transform eight electrical urban substations into works of art, with the support of E-Distribuzione and the Agenzia Generali of Padova in Guido Reni street.
The work of art that Mike 128 has given to the citizens of Padua is a eulogy to art, which the figure of Frida Kahlo embodies, as well as a tribute to the University of Padua and its first woman Rector, elected a few months ago, in the year in which the University of Padua celebrates eight centuries of history.
Eight meters high, it is one of the largest portraits of the Mexican artist made in Italy and with its colors, a scale of grays against which stands out the intense red, wants to draw attention to the theme, unfortunately always current, of violence against women.
“The University of Padua will always be at the side of those who transform the urban fabric into a place of art and of those who make our city evolve under the sign of participation, culture, equality” declares Telmo Pievani, professor at the University of Padua and delegate to Communication and Scientific Dissemination of the University of Padua, commenting on the initiative, which will accompany the University of Padua in these months of celebrations.
