Lis, let’s leave our mark at the University of Padua: a free course on the basics of Italian sign language

LIS: lasciamo il segno (LIS: let’s leave a mark) is a free seminar workshop on Italian sign language, an initiative of Unipd students, with funding from the University.
The teaching is conducted for a module of 30 hours of practice by Filippo Calcagno, a deaf mother tongue teacher, accredited and enrolled in the ENS national register. The module provides the basics for conversing with a deaf person, asking and giving information, holding a dialogue, focusing on vocabulary relating to the university world, the work context and free time.
A 4-hour theoretical module by Rita Sala, sociologist and lecturer at the Department of Comparative Linguistic and Cultural Studies of Ca’ Foscari University, will support the practice. It will provide notions of visual communication, history of deafness and sign language, grammar basics.
The course is free of charge and starts on Monday 12 April, for two hours in the morning; it will be held on Mondays from Monday 12 April to Monday 19 July 2021, with the addition of 20 April and 11 May from 1.30 to 3.30 p.m. At the moment, due to health conditions and restrictions in force, it will be held remotely with a module on the Zoom platform.
Registration opens on Thursday 25 March from 12 noon. Registrations will not be considered before that time.
