Energy transition, digital transformation and circular economy at the heart of new Unipd – Eni agreement

TheUniversity of Padua and Eni today signed a collaboration agreement on energy transition, digital transformation and circular economy during an online meeting attended by the Rector of the University of Padua, Rosario Rizzuto, the President of Eni, Lucia Calvosa, and the CEO of Eni, Claudio Descalzi.
The agreement, which will last three years, with the possibility of extension to five, consolidates the collaboration already underway in crucial sectors, such as geology and geophysics, and identifies new strategic lines of research for sustainable development and decarbonization: new technologies for carbon capture, utilization and storage and for the exploitation of solar energy, as well as studies on nuclear fusion with magnetic confinement.
The Rector Rizzuto comments: “The environment is a priceless heritage, which we have received and we have the duty to preserve intact for future generations. This is the philosophy that moves the University of Padua in pursuing, with vigor, useful objectives to increase our environmental sustainability. Multiple actions that are bearing fruit: thanks to the purchase of energy from renewable sources alone, for example, we have reduced the University’s emissions by 20%, avoiding the production of 18 thousand tons of CO2 per year. And the agreement signed with Eni goes precisely in the direction, crucial for us, of ever greater protection of the environment in which we live“.
