A guide for ‘sustainable’ students

They are Unipd students who, together, are discovering their ability to act in a sustainable way. In spring 2019, the SustainABILITY group carried out an in-depth discussion involving people from the student and teaching community.
This awareness-raising and dissemination project resulted in the “Sustainable Student Guide“, containing suggestions for sustainable practice in Padua, available online and also downloadable as a pdf at the bottom of this page.
The guide consists of three sections on ‘Waste‘, ‘Food‘ and ‘Mobility‘, chosen according to the relevance of these components to university life. Each section analyses the context, with useful information to understand the problems, gives proposals to find solutions, and publishes a map of places in Padua and its surroundings where the suggested proposals can be implemented.
You will find that you don’t need a lot of time or resources to make a difference. After the initial effort, change becomes the new habit and fatigue disappears, giving way to a sense of satisfaction.
Moreover, in many cases the most sustainable choices are also the most economical ones because they correspond to less consumption or the purchase of more durable products. Not to mention that low prices may indicate costs that other people or the environment have to pay.
This guide does not claim to be complete or exhaustive, quite the contrary: the students who read it can contribute to its improvement through their own experiences; and through their own choices they can also set an example to others, triggering in them the desire to adopt a more sustainable way of life.
