Charter of Ethics for women’s sport: the commitment of the City of Padua and the University for gender equality in sport

The world of sport, the academic world and the institutions of the territory met on December 19 on the occasion of the presentation of the Ethical Chart of Women’s Sport.
Assist – National Association of Female Athletes and Polisportiva San Precario promoted, with the support of the Municipality of Padua, a day of reflection on the theme of gender equality and equal opportunities in the world of sport. The conference “Women’s Sport: value of a society free from discrimination, stereotypes and sexism” opened the discussion on the need to institutionalize the commitment to equal opportunities for women and girls also in the field of sport.
The speakers, coordinated by Luisa Rizzitelli – president of Assist, in addition to the mayor of Padua Sergio Giordani and the Councillor for Sport Diego Bonavina, included the Assist institutional contact person for the Veneto region, Angela Montemurro, and the vice-president of Asd Polisportiva San Precario, Stefano Fierli.
The University of Padua was represented by Gaya Spolverato, delegate for equal opportunities policies: “All activities aimed at eliminating stereotypes help to improve and educate society. In whatever field we operate, they are all actions aimed at improving the consideration of women and the equality that it is right to continue to remember. As a University we want to start from girls to teach a policy that prescinds from stereotypes and that prescinds from what is not meritocracy”.
Joining her is Antonio Paoli, pro-rector with responsibility for wellness and sports: “We have about 80 female student athletes who are engaged in dual careers. We have university teams that compete in national championships. Support must also be given with practical acts, such as parenting support, which we implement at the University.”
This was followed by the interventions of Francesca Vitali, sports psychologist – University of Verona, Tiziana Vettor, professor of labor law and director of the master’s degree in sports law and labor relations in sports – Bicocca University of MilanLaura Capranica, professor – Foro Italico University of Rome and president of the European Athlete as a Student network, Anna Lattuca, national manager of the diffusion of the ethical charter for women’s sports of Assist.
Finally, the Olympic and Paralympic championsAntonella Bellutti, Daniele Scarpa and Sandra Truccolo gave their testimonies.
The day ended in the afternoon with two workshops dedicated to European projects of which: Fair coaching, on coaching with respect, and Ewse, on the enhancement of women’s sports.
