The Unipd rowing team closes with two podiums at the Italian Gran Fondo Championship in Pisa
Saturday 19 October saw the conclusion of the Italian Rowing Championships in Pisa.
This time, due to the absence of opponents, the female crews of the Padua University rowing team were unable to take part in the race, but even though they were far away, they did not fail to cheer on and show their team solidarity with their companions who competed in this difficult 6 km race, braving the rain on the Navicelli canal.
Giacomo De Lucchi‘s excellent season was confirmed as he reached the second step of the podium in singles just 8 hundredths of a second from gold.
There was also a great race for rookies Carlo Guggia and Davide Mattevi, who, at their first experience in singles and over such long distances, placed eighth and ninth.
And finally, a splendid performance for Riccardo Mancini and Tommaso Turato, who competed in the complex speciality of the ‘2 senza’ (a boat where each rower holds only one oar), winning bronze and touching silver by just 2 hundredths of a second.
The University of Padua thus wins 43 valuable points and finishes first in the event ahead of the Universities of Turin and Milan, pending the publication of the official ranking.
Congratulations to the entire team and coaches Gherardo Gamba and Francesco Giurisato, who return to Padua satisfied with the results of a traditionally very difficult race, made even more complicated by the bad weather that accompanied the athletes throughout the day.
Once again, the Rowing at the University project proves to be an experience that gives students the opportunity to combine study with experiences of wellness and sports, of meeting girls and boys from other universities, experiences that at the same time promote values of sharing, team spirit, commitment and cooperation.
