Rowing season starts again: Unipd wins first medals at the First NORTH National Meeting on Lake Candia

The First NORD National Meetingfor Students, Cadets, University students and Masters took place on Sunday 23 March 2025 atCandia Lake in Candia Canavese (TO). The University of Padua inaugurated the competitive season by defying the bad weather and racking up medals.
The women’s doubles got the ball rolling withsilverforVittoria Stangherlinand Gexi Sun, Mariasole Raffaelliand Francesca Zocca, andbronzeforClaudia Benvegnù and Martina Piccin, at their first competition experience. Silver followed for themixed foursomeof Anna Cecchellero, Leonora Roncon, Riccardo Mancini and Tommaso Turatowho fought until the end for first place with the University of Turin, which slipped away only by a few tenths of a second. Concluding the day was thegold in the men’s four of Giacomo De Lucchi, Mattia Maculan, Niccolò Rizzardini and Edoardo Santi, who prevailed over their colleagues from the University of Turin and the Polytechnic.
On Sunday morning the races took place amidst rain, wind and waves over which the athletes from Padua managed to get the better of. In fact, Edoardo Santi and Stefan Vasičwon third place, bronzealso forMattia Maculan and Niccolò Rizzardini, andsilverforRiccardo Mancini and Tommaso Turatoin the men’s doubles speciality.
In the afternoon, fortunately the weather stabilised in time for the mixed doubles speciality, which saw gold for Leonora Roncon and Giacomo De Lucchiandbronze for Francesca Zocca and Tommaso MerolaandMaria Teresa Perez Cartier Beingolea and Davide Mattevi. Thesilver for the women’s four ofAnna Cecchellero, Mariasole Raffaelli, Vittoria Stangherlin and Gexi Sunconcluded the event.
During these demanding days, the University of Padua reconfirmed itscompetitiveness and thedetermination of its athletes: the Padua students not only demonstrated their value on the field, but also and above all off it, both in the care and support provided to their teammates and in the sportsmanship and respect shown to their opponents, results of which thecoaches Gherardo Gamba and Francesco Giurisatoare particularly proud and which reconfirm the importance and success of the University’s ‘Rowing at the University’ project.
