Fourth edition of the “Ingenio al Femminile” Graduate Prize
The opportunity to nominate one’s dissertation for the “Ingenio al Femminile” Prize, now in its fourth edition, ends on July 22.
The Prize is promoted by the National Council of Engineers and is aimed at the best undergraduate and doctoral thesis written by women in the field of engineering, with the aim of enhancing their figure and role, also in line with Goal 5- Gender Equality of the UN Agenda 2030.
The chosen theme for the fourth edition of the award concerns “The 5.0 paradigm and the strategic role of engineering” and refers to the 5.0 paradigm of economic development, the basis of the European Commission’s report “Industry 5.0 – Towards a sustainable, human centric and resilient European Industry,” according to which an exclusively profit-driven approach is no longer sustainable, as the excessive focus on profit is a generative cause of social and environmental damage.
In particular, the paradigm focuses attention on three concepts, such as the centrality of the person and his needs and interests in production processes, the resilience of an economic system that should be able to absorb the crises of a social,financial, natural medical nature that increasingly arise, and sustainability aimed at minimizing the environmental impact of technological and productive development.
In keeping with the theme, applicants should illustrate how their dissertation work fits into the overall context of the new 5.0 paradigm, specifically highlighting correlations between the dissertation research carried out and one, or more, of the three concepts outlined above.
In detail, the awards are intended for:
- one dissertations in the field of civil-environmental engineering;
- one dissertations in the field of industrial engineering;

In addition, the awarded candidates will be asked for a copy of the complete thesis in order to include it in the library holdings of the National Council of Engineers Library. The best dissertation abstracts will see publication within the journal of the National Council of Engineers according to the editorial theme chosen from time to time by the editorial board, subject to a request for consent from the interested party.
