CNU canoeing and rowing: Unipd wins 4 medals and fifth place in the national rankings
The CUS Padua confirmed its position among the top five university canoeing and rowing expeditions with four podiums and fifth place overall. This is the response from the National University Canoeing and Rowing Championships held last 5 and 6 October in Genoa.
After an unfavourable day on Saturday for the Paduan team, the four medals all came on Sunday, in rowing over the two-kilometre distance. Giacomo De Lucchi (who had already won two bronze medals the previous year) took third place in the senior singles race, while he won the silver medal in the senior mixed doubles in tandem with Leonora Roncon. It was precisely this competition that had a strong Paduan podium, as Niccolò Rizzardini and Sophia Griggio took third place.. Griggio si porta a casa anche un altro Griggio also won another bronze medal, that of the women’s lightweight doubles paired with Mariasole Raffaelli.
‘The guys were commendable, it was difficult to ask more from this expedition,’ commented coach Gherardo Gamba.‘Being confirmed in fifth place in the overall ranking is a very good result, as the level of the competition was so high. We suffered a bit on Saturday, especially because our crews are not used to the wavy conditions we found. But we made up for it on Sunday and we will continue to work towards even better results in the next competitions.’
A satisfying start to the season for the Paduan athletes, who are already preparing for the upcoming events.
Good luck to the whole team and their coaches!
